Floral Fundamentals

FLORAL FUNDAMENTALS

Following intensive discussions, a group of like-minded professionals from different aspects of the cut flower sector agreed that the floral industry needed help to communicate and to break down barriers. The advent of supermarket pricing policy has caused major issues not only for florists but for growers too.

What was needed was a radical approach and a platform where growers and suppliers could have direct communication with florists and where florists could ask direct questions and learn more.

I was bowled over when I received a call from Floral Fundamentals asking me to become an Ambassador for them and represent the UK in Holland.   I travelled to Holstein Gerbera where we met with growers and designers from all over the world! What an amazing experience it was, all the love and passion from people whos lives revolve around flowers and plants, coming together to create and inspire and learn and teach one another... you can find out more by visiting http://www.floralfundamentals.com/

Prestigious Accolade for Amy Curtis Floristry Colchester

Amy Curtis Floristry in Colchester has been accepted for the Good Florist Guide (GFG), a web based directory of only the finest florists in the UK. This prestigious accolade is only awarded to florists who really make the grade and allows customers to have an extra level of confidence that they are buying from the best. Florist Amy Curtis is no newcomer to achievement within the industry, she achieved bronze in the Chelsea Flower Show’s Florist of the Year Competition 2012 and in 2013 was selected by the RHS as the only florist in the final of the Fresh Talent in Horticulture Competition after completing a degree in Floristry at Writtle College. Amy attracted national press coverage with her Urban Bee Hotel, appearing in the Independent newspaper and on the BBC’s coverage of Chelsea. Amy has also won 5 international design awards for her design work from industry magazine Fusion Flowers. Amy Curtis Floristry is one of a new generation of florist shops based online offering the convenience of online shopping with a personal and professional service. Each florist shop or freelance florist invited to be in the Good Florist Guide has to pass a rigorous evaluation process before being approved. This meant that Amy Curtis Floristry had to submit a detailed description of their floristry business, including the range available and services offered as well as images of the business premises, their design work, their team and even the delivery vehicle! But GFG businesses aren’t just some of the best looking, they also offer the very best value when it comes to buying bespoke floristry and flowers because not only are they true craftsmen but have the very best product knowledge to make sure the flowers and plants you buy from them will last for ages. Commenting on their success Amy Curtis said, ‘We are delighted to be accepted into the Good Florist Guide. We are passionate about flowers, design, quality and the service we give to each of our customers so it is wonderful to have this recognised by the industry.’ Caroline Marshall-Foster, the UK’s leading expert on independent bespoke florists, is responsible for setting up the Good Florist Guide. Editor of Florist magazine, the florist industry’s bible, and owner of Purple Spotted Media, a multi-faceted company providing services to all sectors of the flower industry, the Good Florist Guide is Caroline’s way of sharing the knowledge she has gained through years in the industry. Caroline says, “You can buy flowers virtually anywhere these days. But nothing really beats the experience of receiving fabulous flowers from a truly bespoke florist and without it costing an arm or a leg. The Good Florist Guide is my way of sharing all that is good about floristry. It allows consumers to know that the florist they use is able and willing to go the extra mile and make all their purchases, big or small, truly special.”

Colchester Flower Arranging Workshops Success!

October saw the start of our flower arranging workshops in Colchester, and we kicked off with an Autumnal Workshop for Beginners.  We had a full house of new faces and it was a pleasure for me to be able to share a little of what I know with them all.  We started the day with an arrangement in foam, and everyone turned out a beautiful seasonal design; each full of individual personality!  After a nice lunch we set about some basic wiring techniques and made some beautiful ladies buttonhole which were each personalised with a choice of accessories from paper ribbon or soft feathers to sparkly crystals and decorative wire...

Here is some of the feedback we received from our attendees...

"Thank you so much Amy , today was absolutely amazing , we both really enjoyed and learnt so much . I loved the really relaxed atmosphere and you are a fantastic teacher . Will def be in touch soon xxx"
